The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University and Georgia Virtual School have selected Smart Science® virtual labs for all science courses in their distance education programs, including AP courses.
Students at colleges across the country have been doing Smart Science® virtual labs for over 3 years. Primavera Online High School students,, the fastest growing online student body in Arizona, have been doing Smart Science® virtual labs for over 3 years. Pennsylvania Intermediate Units 8 and 9 have made the Smart Science® learning system part of their wide area network as the virtual lab resource for all of their school districts. |

"Definition: Laboratory experiences provide opportunities for students to interact directly with the material world (or with data drawn from the material world), using the tools, data collection techniques, models, and theories of science."
National Research Council, America's Lab Report, pages 194-195. |
| In a Smart Science® virtual lab, students write hypotheses of experimental results. They select online real experiments to determine the correctness of their hypotheses. They use their judgment as they collect each unique data point from these experiments and identify any systematic and/or random errors. Students analyze their experimental results, determine which hypotheses are false and defend their findings. They may also design and perform offline experiments and upload images and data into the virtual lab for inclusion with online experimental results. Students may work together to write hypotheses, pick online experiments and design offline experiments to test hypotheses, and participate in group analysis of the group's results. |
